Charity & Community

We are dedicated to investing in our community in both the UK and the countries in which we source through our charitable partners such as Frank Water, The Square Food Foundation, Grocery Aid & Loose Ends.

Frank Water

Frank Water is a Bristol-based charity working with communities in India, Nepal and Kenya to improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, while helping to protect water resources for future generations.

We've proudly supported Frank Water as a Rainmaker partner since 2013. Through our partnership, we've helped fund access to clean, safe water for over 6,000 people in some of the world's most remote and water-scarce communities.

In 2025, six members of the Bart team took on an 87-mile charity cycle from our Newbury site to Severn Beach, raising £3,000 for Frank Water. The challenge brought colleagues together to support a cause close to our hearts and contribute to the charity's ongoing work.

“The event reflects our wider commitment to employee engagement, community partnership and contributing to positive environmental and social outcomes.” James Adams, Chief Commercial Officer, Bart Ingredients

Square Food Foundation

Square Food Foundation is a Bristol-based food education charity helping people of all ages and abilities develop the skills and confidence to cook from scratch. Through cookery classes, recipe kits and school partnerships, the charity supports local communities to build healthier, more independent lives through food.

After several years of working together, we were proud to become a founding ‘Sourdough’ member of Square Food Foundation’s Corporate Membership Club in 2024.

In 2025, we launched an employee volunteering programme, with 11 members of the Bart team contributing 164 hours of their time throughout the year. As part of this, our Head of Innovation, Chris Hancock, led a spice masterclass for young people taking part in the charity’s ‘How to be a Chef’ programme, sharing his knowledge and inspiring the next generation of chefs to explore the world of herbs and spices.

“It’s been a real pleasure to support the next generation of chefs at the start of their journey and help spark their curiosity about the vibrant world of herbs and spices. It’s inspiring to work with such engaged young chefs and introduce them to the flavours and creativity at the heart of good cooking.” Chris Hancock, Head of Innovation, Bart Ingredients

Loose Ends

Loose Ends Newbury is a local charity providing hot meals, clothing and other essentials to people experiencing homelessness, loneliness or financial hardship. Run entirely by volunteers, the charity also offers a welcoming space where people can connect and access support when they need it most.

We've supported Loose Ends through Christmas food collections and, in 2024, established a long-term sponsorship arrangement to provide ongoing financial support and opportunities for our team to get involved.

In 2025, we launched an employee volunteering programme, with six members of the Bart team contributing 66 hours of their time helping to prepare and serve breakfast at the charity's drop-in centre. Our Newbury colleagues also continued their Christmas food collection, donating essential supplies to support people in the local community.

“Bart are generous to offer their staff to Loose Ends and it is a busy and fun morning helping to prepare and serve breakfast to all the people who come along.” Jane Saunders, Supply Chain Administrator and Volunteer, Bart Ingredients
