Spiced mulled cider

Try this mulled cider at Halloween, Bonfire Night or Christmas gatherings. If you'd prefer a non alcoholic version, just replace the cider and rum with equal quantities of apple juice.

INGREDIENTS

1L dry cider
1 Bart cinnamon stick
3 Bart cloves
2 Bart bay leaves
4 Bart cardamom pods
a grating Bart nutmeg
2tbsp brown sugar
6tbsp brandy or rum

METHOD

  1. Place the cider, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves, cardamom, nutmeg and sugar in a large pan. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved
  2. Heat gently for 10 minutes, so that the liquid is steaming but not boiling.
  3. Stir in the brandy or rum, then ladle the cider into glasses.
